Education

I am a Year 2 medical student studying at Imperial College London. I was educated in Methodist Girls' School (Singapore) from Years 7-10, followed by Hwa Chong Institution (Singapore) for Years 11-12. I topped my cohort in both Years 7 and 8. Additionally, I obtained 9A1s for English, Chinese, Malay, Higher Malay, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, History and Social Studies (Combined Humanities), Chemistry, Physics, and 2A2s for Biology and Geography for the Singapore-Cambridge GCE O Level exam. As for my A Levels, I obtained straight As for H2 Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Economics and H1 Project Work.

Experience

In secondary school, I did voluntary peer-tutoring for Mathematics and prior to entering university, I was employed by a homeschooling centre in my hometown, Malaysia, to teach IGCSE/GCSE Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology as well as A Level Maths, Chemistry and Biology. My students successfully obtained As for the abovementioned subjects in their recent IGCSE and A Level exams. I also have experience teaching students with ADHD and can cater to the needs of students with similar conditions. I aim to provide a solid grounding in the subject while paying close attention to the needs of the individual. I don't demand that students do extra worksheets and homework that are not part of the student's Maths/Science class, but rather, I coach the student in areas of his/her Maths/Science class that may be difficult such as clarity and depth of comprehension, application of concepts, and test-taking strategies. All that I do is directly related to helping the student to better understand the material from the Maths/Science class that she/he is taking, and to improve the grade in that class. My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring to students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential.
